PETS ARE A LIFE-LONG COMMITMENT DO NOT TAKE ADOPTION LIGHTLY!
There are many things to consider when thinking about the lifetime commitment of a pet. It's important that you take the time to evaluate your needs and the needs of the animal before making the decision to get a pet.
We want to ensure that our rescued animals go to loving homes where they will become a loving member of the family. Many things are taken into consideration when matching an animal with an owner so that we can make the right match for both pet and pet parent. Before any adoption we require an adoption application to be filled out and will conduct a short pre-adoption interview to ensure that both you and the cat or dog are a good match.
Adopting pet parents pay an adoption fee and complete an Adoption Agreement agreeing to be a responsible pet parent. Ownership may not be transferred to another owner, shelter or rescue organization without first checking with HEART.
Animals may be reclaimed by HEART for failure to meet the conditions of the Adoption Agreement, failure to provide veterinary care, unauthorized transfer of ownership, or an act of animal cruelty or neglect per New York State Department of Agriculture & Markets Article 26. |

HEART seeks permanent, loving homes where our rescued animals can live a long, happy and healthy life. Our Cat Adoption Coordinators are tireless in their attempts to facilitate placements of rescued cats into the right home. They screen potential pet parents by asking a series of questions regarding the type of cat desired, family situation, etc.
You must be at least 21 years old with proper proof of age.
If you are living with your parents, one of them must sign the Adoption Contract.
If you live in an apartment, your landlord must sign a Landlord Agreement Form (HEART will contact the landlord to verify they allow pets).
You must be able and willing to spend the time and money needed to feed, house, train and provide medical care for your cat.
You must be willing to allow an authorized representative of HEART to make an adoption follow-up either in person or by telephone.
You must read carefully the terms of our Adoption Contract and be willing to agree to the terms of the contract.
Our adoption fee for cats five months and older is $80. The adoption fee for kittens four months and younger is $95. HEART DOES NOT advocate declawing. Declawed cats, if available, are $120.
Adoption fee includes spay/neuter, FIV and feline leukemia testing, de-worming, flea treatment, distemper vaccination, distemper booster (if age appropriate), rabies vaccination (if age appropriate), and a Free First Vet Visit Certificate courtesy of the Niagara Frontier Veterinary Society that entitles the adopted animal to a free physical examination within 7 days of adoption date.
If you find that you are no longer able to keep your pet -- and after you have exhausted all possibilities of keeping the pet that you made a commitment to provide a loving, caring home for -- HEART will discuss our "cat-back" return policy. |

The adoption fee for dogs rescued by HEART and in HEART foster care ranges from $75-$200. As a courtesy, HEART also acts as a placement service for dogs in local town shelters and for dogs rescued by independent rescuers (HEART is not in control of these animals). The adoption fees for shelter dogs vary from shelter to shelter. If an adoption from an independent rescuer occurs, the adopter may be asked to make a contribution toward a vet bill the rescuer has paid on behalf of the dog. |
